i-FM net Public sector market remains robust, Interserve says 01/05/2009 Services, maintenance and building group Interserve is confident in market demand across the public and privatised sectors but worried about weakness in the private sector

Premises and Facilites Management FM in health and education - AMA Report 01/04/2009 The FM market has shown good growth since the early 1990’s, influenced by the desire to control operational efficiencies and costs, as well as more recently a trend within the private sector for companies to refocus their business in order to concentrate on core competencies. Further growth since the turn of the millennium was influenced by the buoyant state of the economy, as well as public sector developments funded through the Private Finance Initiative (PFI)/ Public Private Partnerships (PPP).This has contributed to an overall market value for outsourced ‘bundled’ services and TFM of almost £14.5bn in 2008. This report is specifically focussed upon the Healthcare and Education application sectors, representing some of the most dynamic end use sectors for outsourced FM services over thelast decade. Accounting for an estimated 18% of the overall market, the market for outsourced ‘bundled’ services within the Healthcare and Education sectors is valued at around £2.6bn in 2008, with the development of this market between 2007 and 2013 illustrated in the chart: http://www.pfmonthenet.net/featuresarchive/article.aspx?ArticleID=23818

i-FM net FM's new HR Needs 01/08/2008 As the economy slows, organisations look at all sorts of ways to trim costs and the famous cyclical debate about whether to outsource starts to find its way to the top of the business agenda. Out of the blue, CEOs and CFOs start to ask questions – some ask whether it would make more financial sense to bring FM in-house, whilst others look hard at the post-room, receptionist teams, the handyman/porter, and the time and hassle involved for the CEO's PA to manage the cleaning contractor. Suddenly, questions are being asked and Purchasing is given a special project to work with Finance to look at analysing all the costs associated with these non-core activities: perhaps they could be bundled together to create a document inviting FM contractors to tender. http://www.i-fm.net/

Premises and Facilites Management IMPROVING THE MANAGEMENT OF REAL ESTATE AND FACILITIES 01/10/2008 No matter what their size, enterprises must make critical investments in real estate and facilities. Whether these spaces are leased or owned for administrative, manufacturing , research, or retail functions (among others), the magnitude of spend and the resulting impact on operations demand that Real Estate and Facilities Lifecycle Management (REFLM) delivers value to the enterprise.Aberdeen research highlights that, on average, 33% of enterprises indicate they have little or no visibility into the spend or processes for management of the different activities that comprise REFLM. Nonetheless, companies have also demonstrated an ability to drive savings and operational efficiencies despite this lack of visibility, indicating that visibility and performance are independent outcomes for this spend category. http://www.pfmonthenet.net/featuresarchive/article.aspx?ArticleID=19627

i-FM net Top FM priority? Cost control, by miles 01/10/2009 Reducing the cost of FM tops the list of facilities managers' priorities for 2010. No surprise there: but it leaves all other concerns trailing far behind. That's the conclusion from an extensive survey of FMs carried out over the summer for i-FM's biennial UK Market Audit.Cost control has consistently ranked high in our surveys, but this year it has clearly taken on a new urgency. As a priority, it was placed far ahead of all other considerations. The second-ranked priority - creating savings through efficiencies – though far behind is clearly closely related. Improving on KPIs and SLAs dropped down the rankings from our previous survey to number five this year. Holding its position at number three was health and safety enhancement, and sustainability has assumed position four.

FM World UK Facilites Management Market Research Report 01/01/2008 The UK facilities management market, including in-house, contracted-out service and total facilities management, increased by four per cent to £115 billion in 2007, according to the latest industry report. The figure is in line with annual growth figures over the past five years - since 2002, the market has increased by 18 per cent. By 2012, the potential UK market for facilities management is projected to reach £129.9 billion, the report said. This will include £10.5 billion worth of total FM deals, equivalent to a 19 per cent real term increase. However, the proportional importance of the sector is likely to remain at eight per cent of the entire UK FM market. The contracted out sector will reach £79 billion by 2012, a growth of 16 per cent. This will reflect companies’ continuing focus on reducing costs and acquiring specialist expertise, that they would otherwise be unable to attain. According to the research, the service sectors which are expected to show the strongest growth potential over the next five years include building fabric maintenance, telecommunications FM services (in particular call centres), environment management (due to increased regulation) and property management. In contrast, the internal FM sector is expected to increase by just seven per cent over the next four years, to reach £40.6 billion. According to the latest UK Facilities Management Market Research Report, the levels have been boosted by increased levels of PPP and PFI projects and the continuing trend to outsource non-core activities. http://www.facilitiesrecruit.co.uk/old_news.php

Market Research.com Facilities Management Outsourcing - Corporate Sector Markets - UK 2009-2013 01/08/2009 The Corporate FM Outsourcing Market has exhibited moderate levels of growth over the last decade, with the majority of end-use sectors benefitting from the healthy state of the economy and the trend for a growing range of services to be outsourced under ‘bundled’ or TFM contracts. However, more recently the market has been adversely impacted by the global economic downturn, exacerbated by market maturity within most end-use application areas. The report contains a detailed assessment of these and other market trends and influences, with analysis of future prospects and potential areas of opportunity, identifying those available within niche sectors. http://www.marketresearch.com/product/display.asp?productid=2420294&g=1

i-FM net Public sector is bright hope in maturing TFM market 01/10/2008 The annual FM market report from AMA Research concludes that the main drivers of growth over the next several years will be continued investment in the public sector, notably in the Building Schools for the Future programme, and in other areas including social housing, regeneration schemes and developments in connection with the 2012 Olympics.AMA notes the steady growth in bundled services and TFM in recent years and puts a figure of around £14bn on the 2007 value of this market. It also points to a threat to public sector growth in the form of potential funding difficulties for PFI/PPP contracts as the credit crisis in global financial markets makes it harder and more expensive for bidders to raise finance. On the other hand, AMA says, rising fuel costs and legislation relating to energy efficiency will support growth of FM providers with specialist expertise.

Market Research.com Facilities Services Provision - Local Authority Housing Market - UK 2009-2013 01/10/2009 The vast majority of LAs and HAs retain the overall management of the housing stock but sub-contract out at least some of the work to external contractors. This is slightly faster than the projected growth rate for commercial floor space of 1.5 percent. The DOE goes on to note that energy efficiency standards, voluntary government programs aimed at improving efficiency, and other technology improvements are expected to balance the effects of a projected increase in demand for electricity-based services, meaning that energy consumption per square foot of commercial office space is projected to show little increase. http://www.fmlink.com/general/redirect.cgi?source=whitepaper-kimberly-clark-040507&dest=http://www.kcfiltration.com.

PR Inside Facilities Management Market Set for Change in 2010 01/01/2010 The Facilities Management market will continue to see a dramatic shift toward multi-service provision in 2010, according to a new market report from MTW Research, with FM clients following ‘flight to price’ procurement strategies to reduce outsourcing costs. The report indicates that client loyalty in the FM market is being steadily eroded by price competition in 2010, with many of the commodity sectors within the market, such as property maintenance, office support etc, becoming increasingly price sensitive. MTW found that this trend was fuelled by the recent recession and resulted in multi-service FM providers gaining further share of the market in 2009, with these companies often able to offer greater cost savings than single service FM contractors.MTW also found that the Facilities Management market has become increasingly characterised by closer relationships between suppliers and contractors, as greater efficiencies and lower procurement costs are sought. During 2009, several FM companies established programmes specifically designed to improve supplier relationships to ensure that material and equipment suppliers were aligned with customer relationship principles and accountable for their own supply chains. According to MTW, these supplier improvement programmes vary in scope, though typically include audits in relation to CRM, sustainable procurement and may even include a ‘best practice’ policy to which suppliers are expected to adhere.Based on sales figures from the industry, the total FM market is currently worth just under £90 billion according to MTW, with operations and maintenance services the largest sector in 2010 and integrated or ‘bundled’ FM service provision now the second largest market segment. The report states that security services provision, which includes CCTV monitoring, access control, security screening etc has grown steadily in recent years. MTW point to a greater emphasis on public safety and anti-terrorist activity supporting buoyant growth in security services demand in 2010 and beyond, with this sector anticipated to outstrip overall FM market growth in the longer term. http://www.pr-inside.com/facilities-management-market-set-for-r1670357.htm
